When we couple the innate intellectual limitation of half the population with the even more dangerous desire "to be lied to" (because thee anti-intellectuals are averse to - or incapable of - deeply contextualized thinking), we confront the following choice: either we find a way to "work around" widespread ignorance, or we truly educate a significantly greater percentage of the population.

Although I am describing "matters of fact," it is lamentably true that if we publicize the fact that dimwits are dimwitted -- and often aggressively ignorant as well -- we kick a hornet's nest whose venomous creatures will then rally every addlepate with the battle cry: "My opinion is just as good as your truth!"
I must add that very often, people who are intellectually compromised -- but not aggressively ignorant -- have hearts of gold. Indeed, it is my observation that intellectually ill-equipped people (who are not also aggressively ignorant) are routinely better people than highly-educated folk, myself included.
Mark my words: the next time you read about someone who jumps onto the subway rails to rescue somebody who fell in, the "savior" will NOT be a professor or an intellectual, but a blue collar worker or a poor person. Bank on it!
