Christianity: A Compendium Of "What Went Wrong" - And Current Worship Of The Wrongness
Dear Ger,
I am happy to receive your rave review of "Edward R. Murrow" on Broadway.
A good question for all of us living in "the land of the self-shackled, and home of the cowardly-craven."
Great theater is a great thing.
Here is Edward Roscoe Murrow's WikiQuote Page: https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Edward_R._Murrow#
You mention your "concern" that I am "inadvertently stealing a valuable number of minutes that each of my siblings has left on earth."
My belief is that what I write is more valuable than most of the nonsense that "passes for normal" in these "United" States.
I am also confident that everyone on my "recipient list" knows where the "trash button" is.
What's more, I have already taken into account my loquaciousness.
Please note that for over a decade, I have become sufficiently adept at meme-making to communicate the gist of my thoughts in the shortest way possible. (Unfortunately, I haven't created an updated file of my best memes since 2017.)

My memes have proven popular, with somewhere between ten million and 20 million "views."
From my vantage -- and taking into account the preponderance of televised bullshit consumed by my siblings -- I (perhaps arrogantly) believe y'all would be better off reading more of my writing and spending less time in "Television Wasteland" where, routinely, people spend much more time searching for something good to watch than actually watching something good. (For nearly all my adult life, I have not lived with a television set -- none in Toronto; none in Cali, Colombia; none in Liverpool; none in Nicaragua -- and none from the time Maria was two years old until 2022 when Cynthia persuaded me to purchase a TV set which, unless Cynthia is in Hillsborough, I use mostly to play music on Spotify.
During the six and a half years I taught public high school in North Carolina, my students were dumbfounded when they learned that I did not own a TV. Their disbelief was jaw-dropping as if they had finally met an extra-terrestrial.
Denise and I got rid of television when we realized that two-year-old Maria was starting to take more interest in the "bloody lead-in" to the nightly news than to the toys in her playpen. From one night to the next morning the boob tube was gone.
Best thing we ever did.
Studies show that an average American child will witness an estimated 200,000 acts of violence on television by the time they turn 18.
How could the coarse-ification of the American psyche NOT have resulted in Trump and MAGA world?
We reap what we sow.
And so, American capitalism -- by way of its entertainment "arm" -- continues to make us selfish, banal, vapid, cruel, bloodthirsty, murderous people who have now decided to let millions of people die by canceling vaccination programs abroad, and by refusing to provide state-sponsored universal healthcare to everyone at home. (Remember when Kevin got free treatment in Spain after being bitten by a dog that might have been rabid?)
I propose we fly this meme as our national flag.
It's more expressive of our current national character than the stars and bars.
This same psycho-spiritual monstrosity is true for social platforms in The United States of Barbaria, even though civilized
societies across the world have taken measures to limit the coprophilia.
As of this morning, here's my current thinking about the United States.
How history would be taught if we weren't fixated on bullshit...

I am the black sheep of the Archibald-Noll family, and I think there are not infrequent times when a black sheep in the family can be used by siblings to normalize their own less-than-optimum views and behaviors.
With at least as much regularity, I think that the black sheep in the family is the one who sees most clearly, and that other family members use the black sheep to normalize the structural nonsense that has finally come into full light in these "United" States of Barbarity.
So, what's next?
I am not opposed to efforts to make "incremental attempts" to "right wrongs," or to improve bad systems.
But I increasingly think that such attempts suck up energy that could be put to much better use emphasizing Warren Buffet's thoughtful (and repeated) statement that "if 800 American companies were to pay the 21.8% corporate tax bill that he happily pays on behalf of Berkshire-Hathaway, there would be NO NEED FOR ANY AMERICAN to pay ANY INCOME TAX, ANY SOCIAL SECURITY TAX, ANY ESTATE TAX, and "so on down the line.
I have long commented that there is no self-help book about "air-drying" one's clothes (either in sunlight, or by draping wet clothes over furniture, or over clotheslines strung in the basement like Mom did) because once you say, "Air dry your clothes," there is nothing else to be said, and clearly you can't sell a book that has only a title and no other content. (For the twelve years that Denise and I were separated, I had a functioning clothes dryer in the basement and never used it once.)
So, to posit the best approach to your new book, the substance of which is a good idea, I would suggest that you spend your time, energy and resources, making clear to as wide an audience as possible that America's healthcare "system" sucks the biggest of hairy wazoos because American corporations (and other wealthy people) REFUSE to pay their fair share, and The System lets them get away with it.
I think any other approach to healthcare remedy distracts us, at bedrock, from the essential piggishess of heavyweight, un-regulated Cowboy Capitalism.
In any event, I will again spotlight the sine qua non importance of Warren Buffett's observation at the 2024's Berkshire Hathaway's shareholder meeting - an observation Warren has repeated in this New Year.

Buffett on Trump's Tariffs: "The Tooth Fairy Doesn't Pay For Them."
We can say -- with a high degree of certainty -- that healthcare will not improve until we muster the willingness to pay for it.
I will also mention a rubric of my worldview: "It is FLABBERGASTINGLY easy to overlook the obvious."
It is, for example, no secret that "Taxes are the price we pay for civilization," yet, even in light of this obvious fact, Americans flatly refuse to pay sufficient tax to keep Civilization alive. (The dimwits and addlepates in MAGA world think Trump is a genius for NOT paying any taxes.)
MAGA world (which won the popular vote last year when they put the bastard in the Oval Office for the second time!) is so contemptuous of "the undeserving poor" that "they want to see them dead." And if their deaths are slow, painful and needless, well, so much the better from the point of view of "the cruelists" who now rule.
There is not much room in America to work on incremental improvement of healthcare because the MAGA mindset always thinks it's being ripped by "the undeserving poor, and if it weren't for them, they would all be wealthy and happy.
I will go so far as to say that I think "Christian" cruelists who now comprise the majority of American Christians, feel their cruelty is justified because their God has designed a world in which most human beings will roast, forever, in an unquenchable lake of fire - without possibility of reform. If this doesn't sound like God operates a medieval torture chamber, I'm eager to hear your alternative explanation.

So buckle up, friends.
This is "The End of Empire" -- and whatever vestigial "democracy" made Empire "sort of" tolerable.
From now on - unless Roberts and Barrett create an impenetrable firewall by consistently making common cause with the three liberal members of "The Supreme Court" -- we now look out on oligarchy, plutocracy and kakistocracy as far as eye can see.
That said, it is increasingly the case that The Trump Dictatorship will NOT pay attention to what the courts say.
... in which case the only "hope" is that a military junta will topple the bastard.
