NPR: In His New Album, Jazz Giant Chick Corea Takes On Classical Music
In this interview, I most especially enjoyed Corea's comments about creativity.
For some years, I have lived with a central belief that too many humans (often through no fault of their own) never "got a life" and so they have to fake it.
Sadly, "faking it" coincides with bogus substitutes for creativity: ill-informed behaviors like "striking poses"; "clinging to bad religion" (defined as any religion that fosters fear to retain its adherents); trying to fill the void with consumerist baubles; the unwitting assumption that the application of enough force/violence is the best (if not only) way to solve social, political and inter-personal problems; and, last but not least, homo sapiens' time-tested favorite "blame The Other Guy."
Anyhow, I found Corea's interview thoroughly refreshing - a fellow so busy creating that he has neither time nor energy for the dead-end distractions that are so appealing to so many.
I haven't thought of Dylan's lyric in years but it comes to me now: "He not busy being born is busy dying." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CJHbfkROow
