Saludos/Greetings,
Over the years I have lived in Colombia for a year and a half, and I consider it -- hands down -- the most beautiful country in the world, geographically, ethnically and culturally. (Gabo is a major contributor to the splendor of Colombian culture.)
Colombia's flora and fauna are legendary.
After Holland, its cut flowers take second place in the international market. Colombia's cut flower sales exceed the gross national product of 21 countries.
For decades, lepidopterists have flocked to this magical land.

If you have not read Marquez, here are a few of Gabo's stories in English language translation. (At the moment, I am hard-pressed to think of a fiction writer I enjoy more.)
My three favorite short stories by Gabo are listed immediately below, along with his superb novella, "No One Writes To The Coronel."
La Tarde Maravillosa De Baltazar - Balthazar's Marvelous Afternoon
A bilingual edition of Un Dia de Estos /// One Of These Days
A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings: A Tale For Children
No One Writes To The Coronel - El Coronel No Tiene Quien Le Escriba
Gabo figures prominently in my list of favorite books.
