"The Big Lie" is entirely Trump's.
The content of the following blog post is ALL you need to know.

As the longstanding politics of American Democracy morph into the autocratic "space" of American theocracy, the old chestnut that "perception is reality" proves equally applicable to "Democracy" and "Theocracy" alike.
Compendium Of Best Posts Concerning American Theocracy
In both instances, "perception is reality" because huge swathes of people settle for appearances-and-simulacra - have an existential need to appear "upstanding and righteous" (at least in their own psyches) -- and so they confuse surfaces with substance.
About half the people need radical simplification of Reality's complexity in order to avoid psycho-spiritual threats that make them doubt their personal salvation.
And so, a "convenient lie" - or at least a "convenient misrepresentation" - is considered "salvific" by those simple minds who have been taught that most people -- at the end of their lives -- get thrown into a Lake of Unquenchable Fire because their God (of Love?) has chosen to create a world whose inhabitants usually end up in Eternal Torment, without possibility of reform.
It never occurs to these terrified mortals that most humans would never do such a thing to their fellows, and those who would are thoroughly reprehensible people. At minimum, most humans would "put people down" like we "put animals down" when they "go bad" or their suffering becomes intolerable.
Make no mistake.
Since Christians are "made in the image of our God" (or at least their re-purposed image of God) they tend to follow His terrorist lead, enacting a cosmic version of Stockholm Syndrome. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome
It need not be this way.
But the number of dimwitted, self-terrorized (and therefore terrorizing) "Christians" always outnumbers the contingent of gentle, kind, loving Christians.
Eventually, there comes a time -- like this time --when the zeitgeist normalizes cruelty, torment and vengeance.
And as night follows day, "the center will not hold; things fall apart.

Alan ArchibaldI've been meaning to write this analysis for several years.
In part, I have postponed the task because I wanted to 'keep it brief" - and brevity is not my strong suit.
But now, I have managed to compose a decent description of what has taken place in America - in my 75 year lifetime - with the resulting demise of substantive Democracy -- or to "put a fine point on it," what has happened to "substantive representative government" with the simultaneous emergence of Theocracy disguised by democratic window-dressing.
Over the course of the 20th century, American Liberalism won the ongoing debate with American Conservatism.
In fact, Liberalism won that debate resoundingly.
Now, in the 21st century, American conservatives became increasingly aware (or at least unconsciously convinced) that they had lost the debate, and therefore and could no longer win "on the political merits."
This inability to win was true for nearly any issue, and so Conservatism realized it could only survive (as a viable political force) if it inflamed racial and ethnic animus as the means for winning an "Electoral College majority."
And they won that majority by appealing to a minority of voters always pre-disposed to wave the banners of xenophobia, grievance, rage and punitiveness.
Once Nixon's "Southern Strategy" converted The Bible Belt into solidarity with "Republican" conservatism -- using abortion as the foremost "wedge issue" -- it was simple-dimple to persuade "all the Good People on God's Side" to rally under the flag of "The Saved!" in what had become a Cosmic Battle between "Good" and "Evil" -- and no longer a democratic political contest to make those essential compromises that enable people -- in all their varied "hues" -- to reach the many functional agreements that enable representative government to work.
What remained was the theocratic urge to resort to God as the unbending arbiter of Goodness and Truth, even though this required the demolition of Democracy.
In the purview of God's Eternal Dominion, the demolition of Democracy means nothing.
Nothing more than sweeping away the chaff.
Once "the battlefield" was moved from politics to theology, uneducated, aggrieved Christians came to believe -- in fact, their religion left them no alternative but to believe -- that their opinions, no matter how ill-informed and subject to conspiratorial ideation, were no longer opinions, but "God's Transcendental Truth."
And, as any "true believer" "knows," God's Truth - filtered through "the faithful's" "Know-Nothing" worldview -- was "the only game in town," and everyone outside the "Christian" "conservative" fold was labeled (albeit unconsciously) an infidel, whom God had already targeted for eternal punishment in "The Unquenchable Lake of Fire."
Now, at the end of the day, here we are, with a third of the population comprised of "conservative" "Christians" absolutely certain that they are God's inerrantly literal spokespeople. And due to the unflinching depth of their conviction - their faithfulness to the one, true and holy God - they consider themselves authorized by God Himself to believe any damn thing, to say any damn thing, to undertake any political action (including insurrection) while the rest of their "coven" rallies around in their "confirmation bias echo chamber," preaching to themselves that they -- and they alone -- embody authoritarian rectitude whose central purpose is to define The Will of God as their ordained domain, with no possibility of discussion, debate and (most importantly) NO compromise, qualities that are the linchpins of democratic process.
"God said it. I believe it. That settles it."
Henceforth, The Law Of The Land will be that all citizens genuflect at the altar of Theocracy, although - at least for a while - there will be a modicum of toleration for well-behaved infidel-dissidents who "don't get out of hand."
What lies "down the road" is anyone's guess.
In 1930, there was not a single German who could conceive that Hitler -- who, in 1909, was homeless on the streets of Vienna -- would incinerate 6 million people, mostly Jews, Gypsies, cripples and a disproportionate number of Catholics who refused to sign off on Hitler's Cult of Personality, essentially a secular religion.
I will leave it my readers to determine the structural parallels between Hitler's Cult and the conservative Christian cult that has taken shape in contemporary America.

Alan ArchibaldFrom lack of intelligence, lack of learning, lack of insight, or plain ol' malice-malevolence, Trump and his cultists do not understand that the erosion of trust in constitutionally-mandated political institutions contributes mightily to the degradation -- if not the collapse -- of Democracy itself.
20th century intellectual titan, Hannah Arendt -- who attended the Nuremberg Trials and coined the phrase "the banality of evil" -- has a lock-tight grip on this corrosive political process.
Here's how it unfolds...
