Ultimately, these witless people want justifications for avarice and cruelty -- "bread and circuses" -- to distract them, at any cost, from the horrific obligation to read and to think in a world that is not black-and-white, a world where paradox, irony and ambiguity add layers of complexity that make historical and political simplification pastimes for simpletons.
Just incinerate the Jews, destroy refuge-seeking families and whip "the black animals" into submission.
