The combination of "patriotism" and "God" always flash "red alert."

Righteousness is an open invitation to holier-than-thou self-righteousness.

And self-righteousness is seldom distinguishable from self-apotheosis.

"Patriotic American History Education" squares off with "Critical Race Theory" as a framework for teaching the role of race in American schools.

Seldom does a poltiical dispute resolve so smoothly in my mind.

Contemporary American "conservatives" tend to be unusually perfectionistic (according to their own "precious" criteria), and so they harbor a puerile, platitudinous view of America as "a home on the range where the deer and the antelope play, where seldom is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day."

Consider.

If the skies are not cloudy all day, there would be no rain and consequent desolation of the land.

However, if the teaching of American History included all components of our history -- factually and proportionately -- - we would see real storm clouds of American history; from the deadly despoliation/ransacking of Native American societies; and the importation of African slaves whose numbers amounted to 32.3% of the Confederate population during the Civil War. That's one in three inhabitants of those slaving states, and their still unrepentant swarm.

Then, America was visited by 100 years of Jim Crow segregation, systematic degradation (including mass incarceration), and Ku Klux Klan terror.

This generation of American "conservatives" cannot look squarely at any one of these three horrors, much less the whole constellation of abomination.

And so, with Truth arrayed against them at every turn, contemporary "conservatives" -- now gibbering at a fever pitch of platitudinous perfectionism -- have no choice but to become diehard enemies of Truth, a complete epistemological transformation spearheaded by Liar-Cheat-Traitor-Thief and reinforced by the neverending fecal fog wafting from QAnon and the pulpits of "conservative" "Christian" ministers "from sea to shining sea," but most particularly in the residual strongholds of "The Old South" where White Supremacy masquerades as White Nationalism. and the corresponding call for permanent white privilege
