"The Catholic Bishops Are Already More Critical Of President Biden Than They Ever Were Of Trump"
Dear Alan,
As President Biden takes office, news reports have revealed a split among U.S. Catholic bishops. The largest faction urges a harmful, right-wing course of action.
According to Religion News Service, most of the bishops "want to wage war on the Democrats" for supporting abortion, birth control, and LGBTQ rights. A vocal minority want to go even further and "punish the new president" by unfairly denying him Communion.
Fortunately, there are still some bishops taking the moral stance of working with the Biden administration on climate change, immigration, COVID-19, and other pressing justice issues. Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich rebuked the bishops' conference for attacking the president on Inauguration Day, far harsher treatment than they gave Trump four years ago.
Thankfully, Pope Francis has signaled that he sides with the cardinal, warning the conservatives to stop their dangerous "obsession" with single-issue politics and calling President Biden to congratulate him.
Since Election Day, nearly 18,000 Faithful America members have called on the bishops to listen to Pope Francis and stop playing partisan games. Will you add your name now and help reach 20,000 signatures before we deliver the petition next week?
Tell the Catholic bishops: Listen to Pope Francis. No more partisan, single-issue politics.
Thanks for everything you do to love your neighbor.
In peace,
- Rev. Nathan and the Faithful America team
