Patriot Thomas Paine Cuts Through Trump Cult Bullshit (Tom Gets By With A Little Help From His Friend, Hannah Arendt)

Alan: “If Trump supporters would only discuss things reasonably, they wouldn’t be Trump supporters.”

You also recall Thomas Paine‘s keen insight: “To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by Scripture.”

This pain quotation is usually rendered: “To argue with a person who is renounce the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead.”

Either rendition deserves wide circulation.

When I send this sort of appeal to right wing friends I preface it saying: “Here’s something else for you to ignore.”

All American yahooism presents an ironclad conundrum: How do we even begin with people who proudly declare, “I wouldn’t believe that even if it was true.”

Alan: From lack of intelligence, lack of learning, lack of insight, or plain ol' malice-malevolence, Trump and his cultists do not understand that the erosion of trust in constitutionally-mandated political institutions contributes mightily to the degradation -- if not the collapse -- of Democracy itself.

20th century intellectual titan, Hannah Arendt -- who attended the Nuremberg Trials and coined the phrase "the banality of evil" -- has a lock-tight grip on this corrosive political process.

Here's how it unfolds...

Instead, You'll Be More Willing To Accept Lies As Truth. This Is Why Trump Lies So Much And Says "Who Knows? We'll See" So Often. Hannah Arendt Has The Details
