Trump has now killed nearly 100 times the number of Americans who died on 9/11
(And 9/11 Truthers are still raving mad about the menagerie of self-contradicting theories they hold.)
Trump Is Guilty Of Negligent Homicide On A Massive Scale: Columbia University Study: "Trump Could Have Saved 130K Lives"
Dear Fred,
Thanks for the update.
Within this Pavlovian pleasure dome, der volk know --- beyond shadow-of-doubt --- that they are "too smart to be fooled," and all they need are leaders who "tell it like it is."
Thanks for the update.
Did The Federalist mention specific conservative principles when praising Trump's debate performance?
John Stuart Mill was right: "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives."
Then there's this consideration, which - for me - is primary:
"Trump Is A Traitor By Virtue Of Normalizing Falsehood And Teaching Americans To Do The Same"
Falsehood is the keystone enemy of humankind.
Speaking of falsehood...
I got mightily pumped behind "Lincoln Project's" most recent ad.
It's worth sharing with Trump supporters since there is no defense against his bullshit and the fact they've been duped.
Sure, they can go ahead and vote for His Malignancy, but they will be obliged to live the rest of their lives knowing they are servile idiots who are - at least "mythically" - in the service of Satan.

As for punishment, I have no interest in punishment for punishment's sake.
But if Trump is not imprisoned, we can expect replication of his monstrosity 4 years from now (assuming we oust mofo on November 3rd).
I realize yesterday's email to you and Roger contained a lot of bleak material, but, given the upcoming Depression, already underway but disguised by "irrational exuberance," we are overwhelmingly likely to find that -- if people vote their wallets in 2024 -- either Trump himself will be back or a ticket headed by Ivanka.

Undergirding our whole discussion is the question of whether democracy is viable.
Sure, democracy will work with an educated populace.
But, by definition, half of all people (in any population) have double digit intelligence, and that same percentage -- expanded by some other double digit number... 10%, 15%, 20% -- has NO interest in the kind of deeply-contextualized learning that will protect them from populist blandishment - especially when their demagogue is an exceptionally gifted pathological liar.

Many do.

The "elephant in the room" is always unbridled, plutocratic/oligarchic capitalism.
Few people -- and vanishingly few conservatives -- will bite the hand that (they believe) feeds them.
And so, capitalism grows -- unstoppably -- not only because obeisant servo-mechanisms put up no resistance, but because los capitalistas have gotten damn good at providing people with "pleasure-lever" consolation prizes.
"Americans are fucked. They've been bought off. And they come real cheap: a few million dirt bikes, camcorders, microwaves, cordless phones, digital watches, answering machines, jet skis and sneakers with lights in 'em. You say you want a few items back from the Bill of Rights? Just promise the doofuses new gizmos." George Carlin

Nor does it hurt that "the intellectually indolent" are so easily persuaded that the "intellectual elites" (folks like Andrew Fauci and you and me) are their enemy.
If you've never watched the following "stupidity exposées," this short course comprises an entire "master's program."

Just now I recall the link I forgot to include in yesterday's email. It was inspired by an epiphany.

Dear Roger, Bob, Donna and fellow classmates,I just had a lovely conversation with Roger in London. London is eight hours ahead of Santa Barbara, so I called this morning at 8:30 a.m. Pacific time, just as Roger was winding up his day at 4:30 p.m. London time. We used Facetime, which is free if both parties have it. When I called Roger was relaxing in his easy chair and about to rise up and fix dinner. He was planning to make a Malaysian curry with coconut and chicken.I told Roger I had only watched the beginning of Thursday's final debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. After thirty minutes I muted the sound and only caught a glimpse of the visuals. I could see Trump was not shaking his fist or throwing furniture, so it was going to be all right. Trump was following the advice of his handlers and keeping it cool. The New York Times described his performance as adequate but said it would have no overall impact on the outcome -- Trump was still behind in the polls. So I checked into the report from the Federalist, a conservative news site that I monitor. Naturally, the Federalist came to a different conclusion than the New York Times -- they said Trump had actually made an intelligent argument in favor of conservative issues. But the Federalist did not challenge the prediction of the Times -- that Trump was behind in the polls and fated to be outvoted and defeated.I am so happy about that. I was telling Roger that my own gut instinct was that Biden was going to win and win big. "Do you realize how good we're going to feel when Trump is defeated?" I said to Roger. Everybody we know is going to be happy when this happens. Trump defeated at last! You can see millions of early voters in long lines determined to make sure that every vote counts. Fraud is unlikely -- everybody is watching. The conclusion will come, and it might take a week or two, that Trump is leaving the White House on the morning of January 21. The only interesting question is whether Trump goes to prison after he leaves office. Roger favors hard time for Trump. My most gentle life partner Laurie says the same thing -- that Trump deserves prison. My own view is that getting Trump out of office is the only goal that matters. Whether he plays golf or rots in jail is not my concern. The nightmare will be over.We have 49 people on this mailing list, all graduates of a first rate Catholic education. It is no surprise that few of us support Trump. I remember hearing a lecture by Father Kelly in Clover Hill. Fr. Kelly argued in favor of Adlai Stevenson. I heard him say that. Do you imagine even for a moment that Fr. Kelly would have anything good to say about Trump if he were with us now?I am not certain that Biden will win, but it seems the most likely outcome. And most of us will be glad of that.have a good weekend,Fred
