The tragedy is that the commercial interests of the media, couple with the perennial dimwittedness of people who are not fond of learning - and are often contemptuous of learning, or not infrequently, evangelically proud of their refusal to learn - have established a bogus debate on an entirely false foundation.
And that false foundation is progressively replacing the foundation of democracy itself.
