My concern is with nothing needed to do to survive there is a risk of wasted lives and zer o accomplished individuals. Few are self driven. Others drive to survive. Without this impetus how many will falter and self destruct? I don't extol work but I do think one needs some real goal to be complete. Inventiveness is a good goal but few have this complexity. Sittig on a curb isn't exactly the highest of human achievements.

Back in the 1950s, my Dad - an early feminist, a proto-environmentalist, a champion of dark skin people, and a stem-to-stern progressive (who died with an updated Greenpeace membership card in his wallet) - believed that the "official work week" would continue to decline from 40 hours to 30... 20... 10...
To prevent the indolent outcome that you fear, Dad proposed dedicated, unrelenting focus on teaching people to be creative -- whether in the arts, or as artisans, or as "professional students."
Imagine what would happen if the exploding interest in niche organic agricultural initiatives got one-tenth the support of our goddam military.
I have had the great good fortune to have lived among Latin American peasants before the peasantry as a healthy, viable, admirable social sector died out in the late 80s.
It has been my unfailing experience that peasants are, in general, much better people, much more contributory people, much more well-rounded, able, competent people than American "consumer units" who have been systematically, deliberately degraded by winner-take-all Cowboy Capitalism.
Clearly, there will be a learning curve.
It takes time, energy and resources to recover from all that dumbing down and self-seeking moral corruption.
Even so, when people are taught the skills they need to become competent (and even expert!) in ANY contributory domain, they love the resulting sense of satisfaction.
And they DELIGHT in becoming increasingly capable - increasingly contributory.
Check out Priest-Scholar-Revolutionary Ivan Illich (a 20th century intellectual titan) who spent his life with incandescent focus on the dispossession of the peasantry.
