My Most Recent Contribution To The Email Thread Comprised Of 1960's Fellows At St. Michael's College Within The University Of Toronto. This Thread Was Prompted By People's Reactions To Charlie Kirk's Murder. (My Memoirs Fodder:)

Reply To Good Friend Jim Sanfilipo Who Commented Favorably On My Post: Google just removed this blog post about Charlie Kirk because it "was against community standards." They also removed it from my blog creation "archives." Google's Blogpost service has censored me before, but never deleted the original document from my archives. Fortunately I still had an open tab with the document "in it."

Preface (to my St. Mike's email group missive below): In order not to lose you in what I've written in my letter below, I will start by drawing your attention to Jimmy Kimmel's monologue last night, the monologue he gave after his show was suspended because, in Trump's view, "He has no talent."   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTZjo42xRH4

Greetings,

We live in polarized - and polarizing - times.

I believe it is useful in this political climate to recall the words of Barry Goldwater who said, “I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!”

Of course, depending on one's view of "liberty," Goldwater's assertion can be interpreted quite differently from the two sides of the political aisle.

However, to his credit, Goldwater also said -- and it has proven to be a prophetic reminder -- “Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”

Each of us has a real choice to make between Democracy and Theocracy.  https://newsfrombarbaria.blogspot.com/2020/09/savonarola-and-pending-apocalypse-of.html

However, it is a matter of historical fact that the Founding Fathers decided on behalf of democratic principles as informed by the tenets of  The European Enlightenmenthttps://www.britannica.com/event/Enlightenment-European-history

In  fairness, from the Financial Times:

Kirk argued that gun deaths were the cost of the right to bear arms.

His views were often odious but he paid the ultimate price defending his principles in debate.
