For the first couple hundred years of Christian devotion, "Christians" didn't call themselves "Christians."
They called themselves "followers of the way."
They didn't just recite creeds, make proclamations, and "go to church."
Rather, they "moved" through their lives in accordance with the actual behavioral lineaments of The Way, The Truth and The Life. (I wonder... What do "Christian" "conservatives" make of Jesus' self-identification with Truth?)
Then Constantine brought the disaster of politicization. (And here we are with The Monster, and the monstrosity of "conservative" "Christianity" which is neither.)
In the Wikipedia article below, read up on "Saint" Constantine - especially the part about Crispa and Fausta.
And don't forget to glance at the section on St. Helena, Constantine's mother, the woman who "discovered" The True Cross - La Vera Cruz.
