As I think you know, I have high regard for Catherine Rampell.
She impresses me as bright, studious, persistent and insightful.I also think she shows considerable courage, bluntly calling things by their names: In this instance she forthrightly states that Trump is “destroying the economy.”
In my own writing, I find that I often want to name His Malignancy the “destroyer” but the word doesn’t sound quite right.
Instead, when I want to talk about the destruction that brings Malugnant Messiah such delight, I end up with sentences using the word, “ruination.”
I think it was John Sanford, an Episcopalian minister and Jungian psychologist whose brief book, “Evil: The Shadow Side of Reality” imparted an “epiphany moment” when he described evil as “delighting in deliberate destruction.”
In recent days, I have been forcing myself to look ever more closely at the fact that Donald Trump is adulated by over 40% of the American people.
How can this be?
How did we get here?
How can that many Americans - almost all of them absolutely certain that they are THE true American Patriots - have ended up enthralled by a man who is so manifestly “evil.” And not only are these devotees “true Patriots,” they also consider themselves “true Christians.”
It may seem like changing the subject, but it’s not. Unrestrained “Cowboy” capitalism has set about the task of sequestering an ever greater slice of thepie, even though Warren Buffett points out - truthfully - that if 800 American corporations (like his own Berkshire Hathaway) paid a corporate tax of 20.8%, there would be no need for any individual American citizen to pay any tax, including Social Security tax, estate tax, “and so on down the line.”
I suspect that Western European countries, Japan, Canada “work” because corporations in those countries are paying their “fair share.” (I will look into these numbers.)
American capitalism degrades an incalculable number of citizens.
The proof was in the last election.
In full sight.
But this degradation is not on anyone’s tongue.
Like the docile citizens we are, “living in the land of the self-shackled and the craven,” we obsequiously fork over more and more money to the plutocrats, while Trump plans a 4 trillion in tax cut for his pals - to be paid for by the little guy who, likely as not, worships him.
Why are we talking about anything else?!?
As a nation that prides itself on “truth, justice and the American way,” how is it that a clear electoral vote majority voted for a compulsive liar, whose “go to” position on ANYTHING is intrinsically “unjust,” and now - with the help of his right hand man, Elon Musk, they use chain saws to reduce “The American Way” to ruination.

Originally, The New York Times hired Brooks as a token conservative.
Notably, it was just last month that Brooks commented - and I quote - that Trump and his pal Putin are deliberately designing a world “made safe for gangsters.”
It sounds completely inappropriate to close with these words, but…
“Ojalá que tengas buen día.”
