My Brother Gerald's Attendance At A Public- (And Charter-) School Informational Event, Led Me To Reflect On The Collapse Of Authentic Education In America

Dear Ger

Thanks for informing us of today's presentation on public instruction and charter schools in New York State - specifically the city of Rochester.

Like Dad, who ran simultaneously on the Democratic Party and c Conservative Party ticket, I have long held that the only way to get a fix on root causes and root solutions is by elevating Truth wherever we find it, without being constricted by ideology for its own sake.

In passing, I note that the word "radical," derives from the Latin word "radix" meaning both root and radish. If we want to get to the root of something, we must have at least one foot in radicalism.

If not, we will not deal with issues by grasping their "roots," but will limit ourselves to dealing with above-ground "vegetation" rather like pulling weeds, but not yanking them up by the roots.

When I get back to my computer, I will scout out a blog post of mine which proposes that unbridled, unregulated, "Cowboy Capitalism" is the foremost propellant of the nation's (and the world's) degradation - physical and metaphysical - having replaced responsible citizenship with consumerism.

Capitalism Is The Foremost Propellant Of Moral And Environmental Degradation In America And In The World-- A Propellant Rendered Nearly Invisible By Plutocrats (And Now, Kakistocrats) Who "Divide And Conquer" Via The Idiocracy's Age-Old Manipulation Of Public Opinion

In the context of traditional public instruction competing charter schools, it was not only shameful, but ideologically hidebound that liberals and progressives did not take it upon themselves to create overtly liberal, progressive, and even radical charter schools.

Compendium Of Best "Pax" Posts On The Cornerstone Necessity Of Education

As Bruce Coburn put it in one of his great political songs, "The trouble with normal is it always gets worse." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaV7Gwo26UE

This would be a good time to review another of Cockburn's great political power songs, "Call it Democracy." --- "Padded with Power here they come, international loansharks backed by the guns of market-hungry military profiteers, whose word is a swamp, and whose brows are smeared with the blood of the poor, who rob life of its quality, who render rage a necessity, by turning countries into labor camps, modern slavers in drag as champions of freedom..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfcfdt0jcWs&t=19s

Try getting Coburn (who, for decades, has been Canada's officially designated "ambassador to the world," and whose portrait is featured on a Canadian commemorative stamp) into The United States of Barbaria's public school system.

I can't remember if I circulated a recent set of memes to y'all, but their captions are set against the repulsive visage of Malignant Messiah, all of them declaring some variation on the following theme: "If God is just, we deserve this grotesquerie."

I suppose it can't hurt to pray for mercy, but what we know karma (and "reaping what we sow") doesn't hold out much hope.

In one of his epistles, Saint Paul makes the flat statement that "the love of money is the root of all evil."

"All evil."

The Normalization Of Cruelty During Donald Trump's Administration: A Compendium

No wonder The Snake Oil Salesman is accelerating the pace of ruination.

In effect, the upper echelons of Cowboy Capitalism have "cut out the middle man," establishing one of their own Beelzebubbian miscreants in The Oval Office.

Meanwhile, we the people -- like "the good Germans" before us -- adulate money and power, the interchangeable coins of the realm.

PS Speaking of Dad reminds me of an occurrence at our Glenmont home: I was exiting the powder room and Dad was just coming home through the breezeway. Within the previous hour or two, Dad had heard the news that Nixon fired special investigator Archibald Cox (midway into the Watergate scandal), and it was the only time I saw Dad physically shaken. I shared his horror, but now - 50 years on - the right-wing's holocaustal incineration of democratic process - and the simultaneous elevation of President-elect, Donald Trump to a secure perch "above the law" - triggers no outrage.

Zero. Zilch. Nada. Niente. Nihil.

Al contrario: Trump's arrogance elicits chest-thumping from more than half the nation's electorate.

The land of the free and the home of the brave?

My ass.

What we will witness - evermore - is our slavish, obsequious citizenry cheering their own oppression while mistaking bombast, bravado and bullshit for bravery.

Pass the ipecac.
