Padre Gustavo Gutierrez was a great man.
Even while leading a "parallel" life in worldwide philosophical/theological circles, he always staid grounded in his Peruvian poor peoples' parish.
His parishioners had no idea who Padre Gutierrez was out "in the big world": he was simply their beloved "curate" (a wonderful word for "priest," particularly a parish priest, deriving from the word "cure.")
