Introducing The Avett Brothers To Abi

Dear Abi

Here are the Avett Brothers' lyrics that were excerpted on the back of the memorial card for bosom friend Fred Owens who brought Cynthia Quick and me together after our time as sweethearts at the University of Toronto.

When my body won't hold me anymore
And it finally lets me free
Where will I go?
Will the trade winds take me south through
Georgia grain? Or tropical rain?
Or snow from the heavens?
Will I join with the ocean blue?
Or run into a savior true? And shake hands laughing
And walk through the night, straight to the light
Holding the love I've known in my life
And no hard feelings

If you don't mind getting hooked, check out just that one song, "No Hard Feelings" - and just blow off the rest.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaU2HvRhCPw

And here is the Avett Brothers' gorgeous cover of Jim Croce's "Operator" which Danny and I sang yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hJwW3f1P-g

If you're now on board, you might want to give a listen to "Morning Song" (which is accompanied by wonderful video "glimpses": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBQZnHv74dQ

Just for fun, check out the two minutes of Seth and Scott fast-talking at the 13:25 minute mark of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SMwa2c7-rE
Then, try to imagine singing this "rap" in sync.
Whoa, Nellie!!!

Concerning the blog post below...

Earlier today, it was contaminated by a superimposed advertisement, seemingly originating from Atlantic Magazine.

I have written Google's "Help Team" and hope they will remedy the situation pronto.

The Avett Brothers

Immediately below, I am posting that same Avett Brothers' post, but using the raw, pre-published form from my blogger composition page:

These guys should tour with Wendell Berry.

Dear L,

Thanks for your email.

IxtapaFest was a blast.

Cynthia, who is back in Chicago now, was a GREAT help to me, managing stress and anxiety on performance weekend.

No, I did not receive a photo of your memorial card for Fred... or at least I do not remember it as such.

Please send... or re-send!

Here's a full length (beautifully recorded) concert The Avett Brothers gave in Brooklyn less than 6 months ago. (This "live show" is my personal favorite.): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRu3LiyV8KE

And here is a video capturing a solid Avett Brothers concert in Knoxville. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kStyWzSAJ2M
Unfortunately, "No Hard Feelings" is not on the setlist.
But here is a live version you may like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LPns-58HS0

And here's a rendition made for a recent Avett Brothers documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaU2HvRhCPw
And here are a few more Avett songs I find beautiful:
The Avett Brothers performing on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts: "The Laundry" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abQRt6p8T7g
NPR user comment: "With all due respect to its terrific albums and kinetic, frenetic live shows, if The Avett Brothers could put on a three-song acoustic concert at every workplace in America, the band would be a world-beating colossus. For proof, listen to this performance in the NPR Music offices." (Above)
New Year's Eve Celebration, 2021 - 3 hour, 8 minutes from start to finish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD1DD5jYjwM
(Inexplicably, there is a 12 minute silent lead-in to his video":
