Alan: The slogan "All Lives Matter" is an ideological dodge that enables white people to avoid taking action that would diminish systematic racism in the United States.
It is a fact - plain as potatoes - that systematic racism has ruled privileged white society from The Founding Fathers onward.
But anything can be whisked away rhetorically.
Indeed, glib rhetoric is essential to the perpetration - and maintenance - of most political, social and economic monstrosities. Sound bites rule. "Willie Horton." "Where's The Beef?" "It's The Economy Stupid.)
Even so, it is substantively true that black people have had a white knee on their neck since 1619.
Recently, Americans became glaringly aware of this fact and the cat is not going back in the bag.
