It is becoming agonizingly clear that what is most difficult to acknowledge in our ongoing political catastrophe is that fully one third of the electorate is not just indifferent to Truth, but hostile to Truth -- and not only dismissive of learning and meticulous education, but contemptuous of these achievements.
All it takes to throw Western Civilization out the window is for St. Paul to whisper in a "True Believer's" ear that "the wisdom of the world is folly before God" -- and voila! -- tens of millions of benighted "Christian" "conservatives" are content to slide into complete complacency and wait for God (or for one of his fascist terrestrial simulacra) to "make it all better."
"Mommy, my boo-boo's gone!"
Or, the dimwits hear Trump say -- and this is a verbatim quote: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”
This statement is so far "beyond lunatic" that just to theorize what Trump is saying requires such a deep dive into the bottomless abyss that any kind of monstrosity can suddenly appear in the pelagic depths.
In effect, Trump Cult Americans want to be deceived.
Or, better put, they assume that their sought-after deceptions are ipso facto facts, and - furthermore - they ascribe malicious motives to anyone who exhibits probing intelligence - anyone with an educational background that enables them to dive into "the deep context of things," thus fleshing out the (often paradoxical) "fullness of Truth."
Let us never forget:
"Any text, without a context, is a pretext."
