(I like Jamelle Bouie a lot - not only the content of his essays, but how he uses his column to let you know he's a real person, with an interesting, inquisitive life that he wants to share with us. Today, for example, he shares a photo of his Dad and brother hanging out in a park - and his just prepped recipe for "Asparagus, Pea And Feta Salad." 

As an aside, I will note my belief that people who "don't have lives" try to compensate for their lack of substance/reality by creating meddlesome dramas whose fey purpose is to fill the void they've created by not doing the work to "get a life".)
