Commonweal Magazine's First Report On The Election Of Pope Leo XIV
Dear F
At first glance, the conclave seems to have made a happy choice.
While he was still Cardinal, Robert Francis Prevost, a native Chicagoan, told Vance -- point blank -- that J.D. (a recent convert to Catholicism) was WRONG in his view of Jesus' love.
One of Reverend Prevost's gigs in Chicago was substituting as a physics teacher at St. Rita of Cascia High School, while also teaching math part-time.[7]
New Pope Is Committed To Francis' Reforms
Pope Leo XIV holds dual citizenship -- Barbaria and Peru.
His mother's maiden name was Mildred Martinez.

The biggest chunk of the new pope's career was spent as a missionary in Peru, where he "went out of his way" to help.
One area of particular concern to the new pope has been his commitment to economic exiles from Venezuela now resettled in Peru where a million and a half Venezuelans live in "exile."
Prevost, First U.S. pope, supported Francis and shunned spotlight
The mainstream press' ubiquitous reference to Pope Leo XIV as a "centrist" is, I think, a rather misleading reflection of his sex-and-gender views -- which, understandably, reflect a two-thousand-year-old institution that has always put primary emphasis on The Holy Family and not the supposed liberation of Anora, a sex worker whose heart's desire is a gigundamunda diamond ring.
At the core level of goodness - and what used to be called "the preferential option for the poor" - Prevost's actual behavior (where the rubber meets the road) enthuses me.

(Go ahead! Read EVERYTHING. Surprise yourself. It comes straight from the horse's mouth - and is a most refreshing break from the smarmy, self-righteous propaganda of White Christian Nationalists.)

I have often said that if American Democrats had continually advocated for FDR's Four Freedoms rather than getting (relatively) side-tracked by sex-and-gender issues (important as they are), these "United" States would not be in their current advanced (and perhaps terminal) state of decay.
Imagine, if you will, eighty continuous years of incandescent focus on "Freedom from Fear" and "Freedom from Want." https://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Four_Freedoms
