Trump books — one past, one future — are in the middle of complicated legal battles that have flared up again. Last Friday, a U.S. District Court judge denied Donald Trump’s efforts to dismiss a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him by E. Jean Carroll. In her 2019 book, “What Do We Need Men For?,” Carroll claimed Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the mid-1990s (review). Trump has repeatedly denied the book’s accusation, claiming that he doesn’t know anything about Carroll — and, besides, “She’s not my type.” But in the transcript of a bonkers deposition released this week, Trump mistakes a photo of Carroll for his ex-wife Marla Maples. Oops! He also claims the author is a “mentally sick” woman who believes "it was very sexy to be raped” (story). In a separate lawsuit, Carroll is suing Trump for defamation.
